A huge fire engulfed what appeared to be a construction site in Alhambra, sending flames high into the night sky.

An apartment building in progress was entirely destroyed Tuesday night went a fire broke out on 3rd and Main streets. The fire was so hot surrounding buildings and garages caught fire.

Firfighters managed to contain the blaze within a half-hour. Transformers on adjacent light poles exploded, leaving close to 7,000 people without power for much of the night.

"There were probably 100-150 people out there on the streets. Firetrucks had to shoot their lines from over houses, probably due to the intensity of the fire. A lot of people were worried, having seen the incredible damage done by the wildfires in Sylmar and Diamond Bar over the weekend."
