"That's my girl right there," says Jabba, his
eyes twinkling.
It's not hard to see why he's so proud. "Trinity"
is Jabba's pride and joy. She's his 1967 Ford
Thunderbird Tudor, all done up in the classic colors of black primer
and red hubs.
"Trinity" is rebuilt to OG specifications, but don't think that the entire car is new parts. The glossy black and chrome interior is exactly the way it looked 41 years ago.
The engine is ready for action, even after getting transplanted three different times. "I got it bone stock, and it ran great," Jabba says, "until my little brother smoked it on a run to In-n-Out! The second time I was taking my friend to work and the engine exploded on the 10 west, heading back from El Monte. I still got his butt to work on 7 cylinders."
1967 was the first year in a series of dramatic body
changes for the T-Bird. Ford changed the classic
coupe's style, stretching it out and adding power and
torque via the legendary 390 FE engine. The "personal
luxury car," as the 60s Birds were known, reflected the
new "space-age" school of design with its plane-like cockpit and controls and fuselage grille. "it's the best, most underrated two-door cruiser Ford ever made," adds Jabba. "Except for maybe the Lincoln Mark series. But definitely ten times better than any Chevy."
The 390 FE motor spits 315 horses, all while being locked into a monster C-6 transmission. Fully stocked with A./C and heater, "Trinity" is built for long trips.
The stock radio is still there, but a Panasonic CD/MP3 player now handles the tunes. It blasts through a JL system and earth shattering 12" subs in a kustom glass enclosure.
Jabba rebuilt the Bird at home over a five-year period. It took a lot of blood, sweat and tears, and more than a handful of hard-earned money, but now Jabba is rolling low and slow. He wants to shout out "my Tio and my brothers, without which I could have never done this project. A special shout to my friends at the Shop, who helped me sand and primer one very long night a couple years back."
To Jabba and his "girl" "Trinity," the car scene is just all about cruising and having a good time. "Just keep moving, keep building. You'll get there one day."
